A further 10 kilometers away there is San Remo, a pleasant and busy little place, great for shopping, with a couple of harbours, a cathedral and old town area (the Pigna), and other attractions such as the Villa Nobel and pleasant garden areas. The Nervia and the Roja valley, 10-20 miunutes drive from Ventimiglia, can offer beautiful sceneries, picturesque medieval villages and genuine Ligurian food at reasonable prices. The first city after the border on the French side is Menton just 23 kilometers from Ventimiglia and Montecarlo is a short distance away.
